Description
-
The heraldic representation of the unicorn has the head of a horse;
beard of a goat; a single, straight horn; the front legs of a deer;
and the back legs and tail of a lion.
-
The standard medieval unicorn was more of a deer-like or goat-like
creature, with only the alicorn to denote it as a unicorn. It was often
brown or black in color, although in later years, it degenerated to
white.
-
Today's unicorn is basically a horse with one horn, and the other
details are minor and insignificant (such as cloven hooves, beard, or
lion's tail). Modern unicorns are basically white, with the occasional
black or purple or whatever.
